Did the American accent originate from the yokel accent of England

Now of course we can blame the Plymouth Brothers/Pilgrim Fathers for a lot, but don't you think its funny that American accents be linked back to the fact that what we 'British' laugh at for being 'yokel', and was in fact the agrarian lilt of most of this silly little Isle. Just listen to George Bush and then listen to Eddie Grundy on The Archers of adge Cutler and you'll know what I mean.

One of the few things to thank Puritan Britain for then.
