Late LwP: drinking is great - yay! But on your own on a park bench?

prole-art-threat [Edit] [Delete] 15:13, 14 September '06

Whilst smugging my way to the gym at lunchtime (look at me! my body is a temple) and enjoying listening to The Chameleons on my yah-pod(OMG OMG like from 1885 or something), I came across a forlorn looking man in an ill fitting suit and 'kick me I work in commission based sales' type shoes, and he was just stood there, holding a can of Holsten, completley devoid of expression or intent. He was clearly some sort of sad day drinker who kids himself he still has a good job or lies to his wife about going off to work and then spends all day drinking in the park. it shook me rather as he wasn't the usual professionally-ranked 'street drinker', and seemed to be in good health barring the blank stare and the slightly ruddy cheeks.

Is it somehow not 'ok' to drink in the daytime on your own, on the street if your 'respectable', or is this somehow something more upsetting than seeing the jolly, ubiquitous tooth-poor cadaver knocking back White Lightening likes he's just won at Monza for the first time? And also as we all go 'yay' and get pissed, if we suddenly found ourselves on Highbury Corner at 12.30pm in a cheap suit listlessly drinking lager out of a can would we be going (in an anoying yah-student accent) "God I'm SUCH an alcoholic, I'm so mad" etc
