Once upon a time I told 2 of my lady friends that they both looked very pretty (it was during my 'trying to be nice' phase, which soon passed). One of the said ladies, looked upon me with scorn and suspicion and asked why I was been a crawler. The other lady smiled and was pleased with my comment, she looked like she might repay for my niceness by baking me a cake or something.

why is this? And what would your response be if i said you were pretty?

Personally, if you say something nice to me I'll think you're lying.
