can CD players damage CDs?

guntrip [Edit] [Delete] 17:01, 30 August '06

so, here's my problem - my CD player is a cheap piece o' crap and prone to skipping randomly, or just plain refusing to play certain CDs.

this hasn't been a problem so much until recently, as i would just rip the CDs and put them on my MP3 player to listen to.

but now, said CDs that are skipping are now refusing to rip properly, and the resulting MP3 files have a lot of skips/glitches on them. this is happening with brand new CDs, some of which i may have only played 1 or 2 times.

is my CD player ruining them? should i take the final step i've contemplated so many times, and just hurl it out the window?
