Lunch with Prole: Are gigs only 'epochal' if you didn't attend them?

prole-art-threat [Edit] [Delete] 13:28, 8 August '06

You know I always love meeting 'older' people who say "Aye I were there when Joy Division supported the Buzzcocks in 79 and thought they were ok" and berating them for being lucky for seeing such legendary bands. The same with The Smiths, Nirvana anf the bunnymen. Now as the onslauight of time saunters around my life and cheekily speeds me along without my permission or protest I have found myself saying to 'younger' people about an 'alright' early Radiohead gig when they didn't have enough songs for a whole set or an 'out of tune' MBV gig that was 'guttingly' disappointing, yet they go "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG" like they've had three of their fingers glued to O M and G even though Im acutally having a conversation with them face to face - you know what I mean.

Anyway. My point is this: can gigs take on legendary status primarily becuase you weren't there as you were too young or something, yet for those involved or there at the time they were 'nothing special'?
