The Unoffical Unrequited Love thread

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 13:03, 26 July '06

I remember having an interesting conversation with a friend a while back where he put forward the theory that if someone isn't attracted to you, there's nothing you can do that'll change how they feel. And that ultimately whatever actions you take, no matter how considerate or romantic, will ultimately be fruitless because people can't change how they feel.

As a counterpoint, the cliche in romantic films is that the guy or girl somehow 'wins the heart' of the person they desire and their spectacular actions, good intentions and general all-around heroicness and suitability for the person they desire leads him/her to finally see that they are meant to live happily ever after.

What do people think about this? Is it possibl to win someone over or do people just feel the way they feel and that's the end of it? I sadly suspect the latter to be true although I guess I'd prefer the former.
