I was reading an NME (last week's I think) at our rehersal room t'other day and I chanced upon their review of The Datsun's new album. The opening to which was something along the lines of...

"Elastica, The La's and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. All once great bands who're lost to heroin". At least, I think it was. I can't find the review online and the more I think about it, the more I think I must be mistaken.

I mean, how the fuck does the journalist know that any members of GYBE have ever taken heroin? They're hardly likely to mention it in an interview now, are they? I'm a pretty die-hard Godspeed fan and have never had an inclination that they take heroin. I mean, I wouldn't be all that surprised if one or more of them did, but how the fuck can the NME be so sure? And is Efrim going to write them one of his extra evil letters? Or did I just mis-read the whole thing???

And how's it affected their output? Their last album wasn't to everyone's taste, but it was a fantastic piece nonetheless. I'd be more inclined to call it classical than post-rock.
