Recurring Themes

oceanRain [Edit] [Delete] 08:15, 1 March '06

Drugs, Death, Dysfunctional relationships and sex. Many times over these themes are sung about by our favorite artists. But often a particular artist will have a penchant for a subject (used as metaphor) which recurs in his lyrics. Bowie and Chris Martin like to sing about outer space. Dude from the Hold Steady likes to sing about getting smashed - with fists and alcohol - in the local bar. Swervedriver liked to sing about cars. (English shoegazers who liked to sing about Ford Mustangs...weird, eh?!) British Sea Power like to drop obscure literary references in their lyrics. Flaming Lips often have these zoo-type animals who seem to be on some type of hallucinagin ("this here giraffe, laughs"). Give us some more examples why doncha!?!

Recurring Lyric Themes/Subjects (that isn't the standard 'sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll')!
