The National - Closer to Joy Division than you may think?

midnightpunk [Edit] [Delete] 23:21, 29 November '14

There's never really been another band like Joy Division. Chris Martin once suggested Coldplay might call it quits after releasing two perfect albums like Joy Division kind of did. Except, of course, Coldplay are nothing like Joy Division ever where - in any sense.

Whilst The National are an all together different sounding band to Joy Division there are strong similarities I feel. True that Joy Division had that other worldly isolated aura, intended or not. The National have that difficult to pin down rattle and pure urgency. The delivery and style is different but a lot of their music, particularly the material from 'Boxer' really makes me think they're the closest we may ever get.
