Perfectly formed debuts

funkycow [Edit] [Delete] 11:59, 13 August '14

Listening to B.R.M.C. by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, I got to thinking about how well they had shaped their sound by their debut. The attitude is there, the anthems are there (Whatever Happened To My Rock & Roll, Red Eyes and Tears), the bits the beeb steal for incidental music are there (Rifles) and they appeared to have cultivated the image they wanted (JAMC). It pretty well left them with nowhere left to go afterwards other than pale imitations of their debut (IMO).

What other bands arrived so fully formed that it stuffed them up for afters (contrast with bands who got it right with their second album, for example).
