I don't get Throbbing Gristle

steinbolt [Edit] [Delete] 13:27, 5 August '14

For some reason although I have often read about 20 Jazz Funk Greats, I have never actually heard any of it. It gets 10.0 on Pitchfork, it has lots of mentions in greatest albums of the 70s / ever lists, it is meant to be a genre defining masterpiece, the origins of industrial. However. I am on track 7 and I am a bit bemused. I was expecting due to be some crushing, brutal sonic sledgehammer. Or for them to be mad compositions that flew in the face of the dull music scene at the time. Instead - nothing seems to be happening. I have a pretty standard drum machine beat, some odd noises, some murmuring and singing, what sounds like a xylophone. It sounds like krautrock but less interesting. Some of it even sounds like the stuff Ross does on Friends with a keyboard. Am I missing something?
