Shall we talk about books?

prob500 [Edit] [Delete] 12:06, 10 June '14

It feels like ages since I really - really - enjoyed a book. Unlike films or music where I devour reviews and keep up with what's new and exciting I can't really raise the enthusiasm for book reviews so I have ended up in a cul-de-sac of the equivalent of dad rock reading (McEwan, Amis, Kureishi, Boyd, Le Carre etc) and Booker-list approved books. All good and enjoyable but I would like something different. So how about you introduce me to you favourite book or favourite author? Bonus points for contemporary things (particularly if Gove would disapprove), and double bonus points for comparing the book or author to music (just to keep it DIS relevant).

(But don't worry if you favourite author is Chaucer and the thought of comparing books to music is facile, tell me about your favourite reads anyway).
