UK's new Tory Culture Secretary on Ticket Touts

sean [Edit] [Delete] 07:22, 11 April '14

"Ticket resellers act like classic entrepreneurs, because they fill a gap in the market that they have identified." - Sajid Javid, the UK's new Secretary for Culture, Media, Sport and Equalities (Conservative, obvs). http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/04/09/sajid-javid-culture-secretary-ticket-touts_n_5117258.html?ir=UK&ref=topbar

Meanwhile, Labour's Sharon Hodgson is looking to introduce a 10% cap on the resale value of tickets, which sounds like a very sensible idea to me, especially if you've read the recent articles about how touts use bots to mass buy tickets, like this one http://www.newstatesman.com/economics/2013/08/bot-wars-why-you-can-never-buy-concert-tickets-online

Seriously considering starting a group to represent music fans in 'debates' like this, especially as allegedly the reason the music industry has gone quiet on this is because promoters and artists are reselling tickets on secondary ticketing sites at high prices.

p.s. if you missed that Channel4 Dispatches doc on secondary ticketing, it's on YouTube here http://youtu.be/Afzcm6tlG4A
