What pop/rock/soul records did your parents have?

zanimos [Edit] [Delete] 12:49, 4 April '14

When you were growing up.

Mine had:
Bridge over troubled water
Rubber soul
Dark Side of the Moon
Tubular Bells

I don't remember them ever actually playing these records.

They also had a couple of 'in the car' cassettes that I must have heard hundreds of times:
Best of the Beatles (actually '20 Greatest Hits' which was a really random selection of mainly early stuff)
Gracelands

All my friends parents had essentially the same records - 1 random Beatles album, Bridge over Troubled Water, maybe a Rolling Stones best of album.

Younger friends or friends with younger parents had Tapestry, Sweet Baby James, a Carpenters compilation.

Never met anyone whose parents had Dylan or Hendrix or Kinks, or anything more 'alternative'. The only people who had access to any other music at home were those who had older siblings.

No doubt a reflection of my age and where I grew up but basically I think buying music was seen as frivolous, generally people just listened to the radio.

So what records did your parents have and did anyone basically get their love of music from their parents music collection?
