Favorite albums of the contrarian and/or willful obscurist

feedthecollapse [Edit] [Delete] 00:41, 1 April '14

a.k.a. "Shut up, you know Dark Side of the Moon is their best album." Albums that are otherwise good, but seem to be only favorited by those attempting to be more obscure than thou because the more popular choices come off as easy answers.

1. Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn: Fans of latter-day PF seem to like the album, but it seems like anyone who cites this album as their favorite album is very indifferent to everything after the album. Animals was my runner-up.

2. Nirvana - In Utero: Of course you "get" the more noisy, relatively less popular album that the major labels "didn't want released" (*winkwink*), you bought into the album's marketing hook, line, and sinker.

3. The Jesus and Mary Chain - Darklands: I actually really like this album, but you know why Psychocandy towers above all else? Because it is 100% JAMC and everything else, no matter how good, is generally JAMC latching onto then-recent trends. Darklands is the best album Echo & the Bunnymen never wrote.
