The Bands/Artists Who Have and Haven't Survived The Hype

sean [Edit] [Delete] 11:35, 24 March '14

It's interesting to look back a decade of boom and bust for buzzbands. The web makes it easier for bands to get massive in a lot less time than it took Britpoppers and Grunge acts. The Internet can also destroy a band as quickly as it builds them up.

Which casualties do you wish survived and which Emperor's new clothes-gazers surprised you that they rode out the hyperbole? Who do you wish didn't fly so close to the sun?

Black Kids - just as I was starting to get over the hype, and found myself enjoying a song or two, people got really mean about them.

Terris - I saw them on the NME tour and they were actually pretty good. A unique band who could probably have become cult heroes if they weren't meant to be bigger than Oasis or whatever the NME cover-line was.

Uffie - I hate that almost every review of her rather splendid debut album (definitely better than the Sky Ferreira record that's picking up plaudits everywhere) was a young freelancer moaning that she missed her moment, even tho it was only 3 years between her first demo hitting MySpace and her album coming out (in which time she had a kid).

Memoryhouse - were really built up by Pitchfork and then their album came out, and it's like the blog-world buzz never happened. Great band. Far more deserving of praise and respect.

The Enemy - have a new album on the way... #REALMUSIC
