Sunday weekly listening thread (Last.fm and that optional)

Lambchops [Edit] [Delete] 18:13, 16 March '14

So what has DiS been listening to this week?

Mine is:

1) Elbow - 51
2) MO - 36
3) Johnny Foreigner - 29
4) Neneh Cherry - 28
5) We Are The Physics - 17
6) Shuggie Otis - 10
7) The Proclaimers - 9

1 - Great Elbow album, definitely an improvement on Build A Rocket Boys, probably most similar in mood to the second album (but without the choir as some people seem happy about!).
2 - File under "just good pop." Bit magpie-esque and I'd like to see a bit more of her own identity come through on future releases (even if it is stuff like covering Spice Girl's Say You'll Be There!), sounds a bit like the poppier end of Lykke Li at times and there's certainly a bit of Lana Del Rey in the voice, but without surrendering to the morose blandness that had me bored of Del Rey pretty quickly.
3 - Thanks to everyone on here who was enthusiastic about these guys and got me around to listening to them. Enjoyable album.
4 - Possible album of the year so far contender. Sparse, great vocals some uncomfortable lyrics at times. Very impressive. Hadn't really heard any of her stuff before this.
5 - Johnny Foreigner gave me a hankering for some more shouty, noisy pop music and, although they are perhaps one trick ponies, We Are The Physics excel at this sort of thing (and I reckon Olivia Neutron Bomb is a slightly better celebrity pun song title than Riff Glitchard, though it's a close run thing).
6 - Picked up a vinyl compilation based on the blurb on the back of it making it sound good and the fact I knew I loved Strawberry Letter 23. Glad I did, some great tunes.
7 - Sunshine of Leith, because why not?

Your turn.
