It's World Book Day - what's your favourite book about music? Or music-related fiction?

Lester Bangs' Psychotic Reactions & Carburetor Dung and Nick Kent's The Dark Stuff are two which have inspired me and a lot of our writers.

Then there's the opening chapter of Don Delillo's Great Jones Street, which takes some beating. The whole book is great, but oh boy, that opening ("Fame requires every kind of excess. I mean true fame, a devouring neon, not the somber renown of waning statesmen or chinless kings...").

This incredible paragraph in A Clockwork Orange, when Alex listens to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony may be my favourite line written about music (I remember re-reading it over and over when I was about 15, as it blew me away):

"Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!"
