SD Laika

jimitheexploder [Edit] [Delete] 10:55, 5 February '14

They deserve their own thread outside of the dance mongrel, because its just so damn good and out there. I really have no idea who they are, could be anyone. They've had an EP out on Lost Codes, Visionist's label and there is an album on the way for Tri-Angle soon, I hope anyway, because I'm ready for it, has potential to be one of the best of the year when it arrives if the other stuff is to go by.

It really doesn't sound like much else out there, they're getting put into that new wave of grime sort of tag, yet it really doesn't sound like grime. Visionist is a close-ish one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3qKWrOHLqQ) yet he's way more dreamy and dance floor leaning a lot of the time, conventional in comparison. The rest of the Lost Codes roster so far has a taste of it, but they're often way more grimy even in the odder moments, people like Arce, Saga, Filter Dread, Bloom, LOLGurlz & The Oracle. Someone like Brood Ma has a simular noisy maddness going on (https://soundcloud.com/broodma/sets/f-i-s-s-i-o-n) that might be a bit more hyperactive. You can maybe hear fragments of Logos and Jam City at times, maybe a bit of Bandshell here and there, maybe a little Young Echo if they got their drinks spiked. It sounds like grimy signals beamed from Mars.
