Revisiting Great Albums from 2013 5 Eluvium Nightmare Ending

wonton [Edit] [Delete] 21:21, 26 November '13

Posting two today and another in the morning to make up for yesterday.

I've actually never heard Similes but I know many who don't like the inclusion of vocals on it, and I can probably imagine it bears similarity with this year's pretty MOR Olafur Arnalds record. But to call this a return to form is a cliche that masked how highly I rate Matthew Cooper's work within the ambient field. A great Eluvium record is a noteworthy event, and Nightmare Ending's Copia-styled melodies certainly fit that model. It's long, aesthetically brilliant, and the widescreen drones are reminiscent of Hammock or Barn Owl, as well as earlier album Talk Amongst The Trees. If you usually only listen to a few ambient/modern composition albums per year, this should be on your list.

Favourite track... I think Sleeper encapsulates the album perfectly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQoOWyNP3LE
