Revisiting Great Albums from 2013 #4 Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest

wonton [Edit] [Delete] 21:01, 24 November '13

There has, by my reckoning, been a good number of hyped albums that have disappointed this year (perhaps this doesn't deviate from the norm), such as The National, The Knife, YYYs, Arcade Fire, MBV. Some say Tomorrow's Harvest also belongs in that group, but they're very wrong (and in a minority, I think).

Hopefully a real BoC expert will comment on this thread, because only since this release have I REALLY spent time with their back catalogue. I prefer the murkier, slightly more sinister (reference to the film credits there..) tone within albums such as this and Geogaddi. What makes this so great is that, 30+ listens in, it still feels so complex, like every song appears slightly differently and distorted on each new listen.

The main thing it carries on is how unreferenced their music still feels. There are touchpoints sure, but BoC music always gives the impression that it began out of nothing, as if it could've still been made if centuries of musical history had never happened.

Favourite track...is definitely more of a "whole album", making one selection hard, but let's say New Seeds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwz9Ue4RH-w
