Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2013

ouroborus [Edit] [Delete] 16:03, 23 September '13

Nominees this year are as follows:

CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share
Disclosure & AlunaGeorge - White Noise
Duke Dumont & A*M*E - Need U 100%
Girls Aloud - Something New
Little Mix - DNA
Mutya Keisha Siobhan - Flatline
Olly Murs - Dear Darlin'
One Direction - Kiss You
Petula Clark - Cut Copy Me
Robbie Williams - Candy
The Saturdays - Gentleman
VV Brown - The Apple

There are some really strong songs this year, but the list as a whole feels a little weak.
I'm a bit sick of them now but White Noise and Need U 100% are both undeniably amazing, so they'd be alright winners.
I have such a soft spot for that Saturdays' song and it made me sad inside that it massively flopped, so wouldn't mind if it won, especially since All Fired Up didn't get its due last year.

Probably rooting for The Apple though, came out of nowhere and is a complete powerhouse of a song.
[Has anyone listened to the VV Brown album? It's pretty good]

Also, I don't know why Popjustice are Olly Murs apologists; some of his songs are alright, but he's so far behind the rest of the contenders here.
