Another year, another Of Montreal album, and another stylistic shift. False Priest took their prog-funk period to its conclusion, then Paralytic Stalk mixed downbeat ballads with some very divisive experiments. This time round, Kevin Barnes is touting a glam-ed up variant on country rock...and it really suits them.

Listening to the whole thing now, and while there's some exceptionally bleak narratives (even by Barnes's stamdards), it's possibly the most straightforward and accessible thing they've done since The Sunlandic Twins. Suspect this could bring a few people put off by the last couple of records back into the fold.
