Modern Listening: How do you keep track of music you like or still need to check out?

sean [Edit] [Delete] 18:36, 7 May '13

YouTubes on Facebook, SoundClouds on Twitter, Spotify playlists, thisismyjam, CDs, vinyl, NPR album streams, blogs, Hype Machine, Shuffler, that song you heard on the radio by that band you been meaning to check out, listicle journalism of records that sound great, reviews that make you go 'oooh, I want to hear that', threads full of amazing things to check out... HOW ON EARTH DO YOU KEEP ON TOP OF IT ALL?

I have a vague method to my madness, but with a lot of promos flipping from physical CDs to about 5-10 different digital services, keeping up with stuff pre-release and checking out a lot of music, has become quite hard to manage, let alone consume. And I do this full-time, I can't imagine how hard it is for people who have maybe an hour a day or a few hours every weekend.

I'd be curious what you do....
- are you a note-taker? (phone, text doc or paper?)
- do you have a vague 'to listen to' playlist system? (I sort of do this)
- do you try to stick to one online service to make things easier?
- do you just order something when you read about it?
- or do you just dip in and out of various different sites and services when the mood takes you?
- or do you stick to physical formats because the limitations are helpful and allow you bring some order to things?
- or...?
