Name a recent post-punk band/ album which does not sound like JD in your opinion, and yet that comparison has been erroneously made nonetheless?

Violator [Edit] [Delete] 21:17, 21 April '13

I'd say the most over stretched comparison to JD and one that still seems to be alive and well more than a decade later is TOTBL.

I remember when Editors were completely haunted by this lazy comparison on their third album. I think there was this strange view that "it sounds like Editors trying to do Closer". Bloody nonsense - love 'em or hate em, it was clear someone was stretching the influence a thousand miles beyond what would be credible.

It's basically been one of the most over used comments to make about a band that sound a bit gloomy for the last ten years. Post-punk is a pretty big genre encompassing quite a wide variety of musical styles.

So can you name anymore post-punk/ coldwave bands which sound very little like Joy Division and yet have been tiresomely compared to them in a review or by people who clearly haven't really listened to JD?

Which band would you say they sound like instead? Cheers.
