How come there aren't more black dudes in indie pop-rock?

oceanRain [Edit] [Delete] 07:24, 26 March '13

Feel free to take a sincere crack at the question, post exceptions to my (made-up?) rule, but don't call me a racist if that's just OK.

I think it's a legit question. White boys don't seem to have any qualms adopting hip-hop, eh.

Here's the thing: black dudes have an exceptionally high kick-ass indie per-capita rating. I wasn't all that crazy about Dev (Haines?) but then we have TVotR, Twin Shawdow, The Weeknd (which sorta only barely counts as R&B is really more accurate)...and I can't think of any black artists I find mediocre or worse until we get to Frank Ocean.

Seriously, though. Not many black artists out front. I think we need more afros in indie rock. That's all I'm saying. Start a recruiting program, something like that.
