james blake really has been suffocated by context hasn't he? (JESUS, ANOTHER JAMES BLAKE THREAD)

michael_w [Edit] [Delete] 09:16, 8 February '11

yeah...i didn't hear The Earlier Eps...i'm not really that interested in the shifting nature of dubstep and where blake may or may not relate to it in the past or the present or the future...and i'm not to fussed about how his beats relate to styles of other artists and how FORWARDTHINKING that may or may not make him...

but i do know that the willhelm scream is an almost perfect song, and...on first listens, the album seems very decent.

i find it interesting to compare james blake with gold panda. (solo guy making beats...first long player after previous releases...one gets a quiet guardian debut album of the year award...one ranks high in that trumpeted BBC thing) of course context will always be relevant, but i bet there would be hella less negativity towards the same music if it had avoided this context-clusterfuck and been allowed to breath....a bit like lucky shiner which got a pretty much completely positive reaction, but is, i think, actually a weaker record.

anyway. the world didn't need this thread, but i've got a day off work so i bloody well made it anyway.
