Winterfylleth... and the state of UK Black Metal.

basil [Edit] [Delete] 22:04, 12 August '10

Winterfylleth seem to be all over the metal press at the moment and on the verge of a genuine commercial breakthrough. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve seen this amount of coverage (balanced between the mainstream and extreme metal press), for a home-grown black metal record, since Cruelty And The Beast. Album of the month in Terrorizer and Zero Tolerance, with an interview in the former and cover stars in the latter, not to mention a decent review in MH and momentum gathering on-line – even a 5.5/6 in Thrash Hits, no less...

Is anyone a fan? They seem to be spearheading a new English Unholy Trinity, along with pine-scented bedfellows Wodensthrone and Fen. Some have dubbed it ‘English Heritage Black Metal’ and the three bands certainly recall the nationalist historical slants of Enslaved and Drudkh. With that, of course, comes controversy and questions of political leanings. Certainly if Winterfylleth are to become bigger then they may have to answer questions and clarify internet rumours.

But just wondered if anyone has any thoughts about this and the general state of UKBM.
