geek guitar advice

johnnyforeigner [Edit] [Delete] 21:19, 12 August '10

hi, im a complete ignoramus about stuff like this but i wondered if anyone here would know; i have two custom telecasters, a black one with two humbuckers and a white one thats identical apart from a thinner neck and a single coil on the bridge.
I pretty much use the white one all the time on the neck pickup only. The black one sounds completely different on the neck, its waaay louder and not as bright. Why is this?
surely, its the same equipment doing the same thing? The black one has been messed up and rewired loads of times by people of varying tech knowledge, so its totally possible it's cos of something someones done after market.
so i guess my actual question is, is that possible (and thus reversable) or are there actual components under the scratchplate that differ on both models and if so does anyone know what they would be?
i need a spare same sounding guitar but can't bring myself spend cash on something i already own.

if anyone can help i'd be super-greatful. THANKS!

alexei
