Basic + potentially cringey 'playing live' questions

maffy [Edit] [Delete] 15:22, 3 August '09

So I'm helping out my friend soon who's acousticyelectronicbeaty noodlings are going to be done live. At a real gig. Luckily not a big one. I have some incredibly basic questions however, hopefully someone can help. Don't laugh.

1) If I used a laptop, would I need to bring anything to hook it up? Does it go straight into a PA? And any tips for generally 'playing stuff out' on a laptop?

2) If I wanted effects on my vocals (eg delay), could I bring an effects pedal/s to put the venue's mic into? Or are there on-board effects on the PA thingy? And do I need any special leads for doing that?

Thanks in advance!
