Okay my suggestion is My Vitriol - Finelines. It seemed like none of the songs lived up to Always: Your Way, and the instrument bits were just there to pad things out. plus they then went and remixed the thing. great.

another, in retrospect, is Manic Street Preachers. although i wasn't around at the time it must have been a big disappointment when people found that the supposed best album of all time was actually just pretty good and far too padded out with eighties rifforama. it seemed the manics were most exciting at this point but didnt start consistently making music to live up to it until the bible.
