I've invented this scale for measuring how good a song is. The scale can only be used for bands you actually like.

10 - This song goes beyond good and into utterly amazing, indispensable, life-changing kind of song. This epitomises why you like this band and what they are capabale of. When people say this song isn't good you get angry and think they're stupid.

9 - Excellent. Everything about this song is still good but for some reason it doesn't quite *click* over into ten.

8 - You wouldn't neccessarily put it on a mix cd to get someone into the band. Your brain accepts that it's not the best thing they've ever done but the rest of you loves it all the same.

7 - There's nothing to dislike about this song but there's something lacking a little. still better than what most bands could come up with though.

6 - Has a place on its album and in your heart but perhaps if you didn't already like this band you wouldn't have given this song a chance.

5 - Interesting but getting into 'wouldn't listen to this if it wasn't on the same record as some other decent songs' territory. You'd never skip it though.

4 - Interesting idea but they didn't quite nail it. Bordering on actually bad but you're glad to have heard it cos you like the band.

3 - Did the world really need this song? Okay, all bands have a bad day but this is one for the boxed set of outtakes. They must have realised while they were recording that this sucked so they gave up. You'd skip this if you weren't in the mood.

2 - Crap. Has nothing of what you like about this band in it. If someone who hated the band said this song was shit you'd have nothing to say in its defence. You'd nearly always skip this song.

1 - Unbearable. It makes you want to cry that the band who wrote those great songs could also write this. You would definitely skip this song. You'd delete it from your iTunes so it didn't marr the album it came from. It's almost an insult to you that the band did this song.

there you go. I don't exactly know what you're supposed to do with this scale. Perhaps list some bands and list their 10s & 1s? rate an entire album according to this scale? do you know any album that's all 10s or all 1s?
