album covers which are just a picture of the band

smezzer [Edit] [Delete] 16:28, 6 February '07

really do piss me off. i cant believe people can still get away with them nowadays.

ok, if your a pop star like justin timberlake, and partially work off your image or charisma to sell records, then its understandable. and at least some pop covers have a degree of artistry about them.

but i'm talking about bands who looked like they've just grabbed a camera and chosen the best picture out of the first 4 they took, then slapped it on the front cover.

ok, you'll probably say that so many great albums have a fairly straightforward photo on the front cover, mainly ones from the 60s and 70s. some were quite artistic or heightened a band's mystique, but the rest should be ignored as quaint throwbacks to a time when record companies thought every band could be pop stars. and we should have left them as far behind as shake-n-vac and racist comedy.

im probably not making much sense, but it just smacks of laziness and creative bankruptcy. and that really gets my goat.

btw, this little rant was inpired when i saw the album cover for brakes 'the beatific visions', them all stood around looking like complete nonces in the most cliched of setups
