Disliking Jimi Hendrix

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 21:31, 25 January '07

My flatmate is currently playing a Jimi Hendrix album. I'm really, really not enjoying it. In the past I've not really listened to Hendrix as it didn't really appeal but I just thought I didn't actively like it. I now realise I actually dislike it.

It just reminds me of every shit band from the last 30 years. Whislt I acknowledge it isn't really Hendrix's fault other people ripped him off incessantly, that doesn't make me enjoy his music any more.

I should clarify that I daresay that at the time Hendrix sounded revolutionary and fresh and exciting and brilliant & stuff but I'm finding it really dated and, taken on its own merits and outside of the context of the history of its creation and Hendrix's role in popular culture, I just don't think it's that enjoyable. Obviously it's technically very accomplished but you could say that about Lenny Kravitz, Maroon 5 or the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I don't really enjoy their music either.

Is my view particularly unusual?
