ok so he had charisma. ok he had a personality. but is he really all he's cracked up to be?

im not arguing his skill as a guitarist. he was clearly naturally gifted. but he didnt exactly push the boundaries of popular music. most of what he played was deeply rooted in the blues style of guitar playing. and though he did go on exploratory guitar missions, they're the sort of thing members of this website would class as wankery. and i'd agree myself

lets not get started on his lyrics: the worst sort of 60s psychedelic tosh. yes he had a cool voice, but nothing special. i reckon if he'd been in a good band purely as the guitar player he would have been much more suited.

i have a lot of love for jimi, but he is severely overrated
