i vote minutemen - the rhythym section of bass and drums is incredibly tight and funky, as well as being powerful and aggressive. d boon can play abrasive chords and lightning solos, sometimes in a freeform jazz style. he does this whilst also spouting intricate lyrics at a different tempo to his playing.

and the final result is much more than the sum of its parts.

anyone got any other suggestions? i went with guitar/bass/drums, but any combo is fine by me.
