Frank Sinatra in 2007

BobbyGrindrod [Edit] [Delete] 12:30, 3 January '07

I know, I know... groan away! :)

Over the years I have done my utmost to make sure, on these boards at least, that Frank is not seen as JUST another big band crooner. His great break-up LPs (at the very least) deserve recognition as great works of art.

Has my boring one-track droning had any effect? Or does everyone just think of Robbie Williams, "New York, New York" and X-Factor still...?

Clearly not everyone will be a fan of his voice, but I was discussing this subject on the Sinatra Family Forum earlier. The regulars there all seem to love Michael Buble et al and think its super that Robbie is 'keeping the flame alive', but I feel that Sinatra's body of work has far greater conceptual weight than almost any other similar singers (contemporary or otherwise)and deserves more than to be simply associated with all this new big band/Cowell stuff.

I wondered what the indie crowd's view of Sinatra is at the moment. Do Ray from X-Factor and Simon Cowell make him seem irrelevant?
