Cursive, The Ugly Organ and cellos in rock music

guntrip [Edit] [Delete] 22:57, 2 January '07

ok, so i used to play cello for a looooong time and although i don't anymore, i still think it's a lovely instrument capable of producing some beautiful sounds.

however, it does tend to annoy me that it only tends to be used on slow numbers that the writer probably wants to sound "mournful".

i bought the above Cursive album recently and i really like they way they use the instrument to make violent, nasty sounds on a lot of the tracks, to the extent that it actually works with their heavy guitar sound. do any of their other records do this? i know gretta's not in the band anymore, but i'm not sure if she's on any of their earlier stuff either...

anyway, any other records where cellos are used in a similar way?
