Mira Calix Live

WARP artist Mira Calix specialises in mixing vocals and experimental electronic textures incorporating orchestration and classical instruments into installations and film soundtracks. She was awarded British Composer of the Year 2009.

Mira Calix is a composer and performer.. She is  signed to Warp Records on which she has released five albums. Her earlier music is almost exclusively electronic in nature, however, since 2003 she has incorporated orchestration and classical instruments into her work for installation pieces, film soundtracks and theatre.

Mira Calix has been commissioned to write pieces for the London Sinfonietta, the Aldeburgh Festival, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Opera North and The Manchester International Festival amongst others. In the autumn of 2009 she won a British Composer Award  for her composition, ‘My Secret Heart’.  She regularly collaborates with visual artists and musicians; including UVA, Quayola, Flat-E, Oliver Coates and the ensemble Alexanders Annexe.  Mira has recently been awarded a ‘Grant For The Arts’ by the The Arts Council Of England, to develop her skills in orchestration in collaboration with composers; Tansy Davies and Larry Goves.

People Like Us present Genre Collage

Brainchild of UV artist Vicki Bennett, this live set will manipulate well-known feature films, interchanging content and using film icons to create an entertaining take on classic movies.

"... a freeform, unfolding imaginary landscape that is liberally peppered with slapstick." -Phil England, The Wire
