SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE in London this Friday (4/12)

John_Miles_of_Smiles [Edit] [Delete] 22:55, 3 December '09

We have our penultimate show of the year tomorrow night (Friday 4th December) for Ben Chasny’s SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE at Bush Hall. For this show the raggedly sumptuous full band cosmic sojourns of his recent Drag City recordings will be rendered with the assistance of Magik Markers’ Elisa Ambrogio and Trembling Bells/Current 93/Bonny Prince Billy drummer Alex Neilson.

Support comes in the form of IGNATZ’s spooked vignettes, preceded by VOICE OF THE SEVEN THUNDERS (formerly of the Seven Woods), also expanded through the contributions of fellow travellers including – for this show – Hush Arbors.

“There are few living musicians as satisfying as Ben Chasny, who records as Six Organs of Admittance” THE WIRE

“Six Organs of Admittance, record incredibly dark gnostic meditations. Propelled by Chasny's masterful acoustic guitar, their tumultuous clamour inhabits a heathen netherworld reminiscent of the Lucifer Rising soundtrack recorded by Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, their 20-minute mantras never once falling into the cod-raga of so much so-called 1960s-informed folk music.” THE GUARDIAN (Julian Cope!)

“Luminous Night reflects the yin-yang duality of a player whose axework has fuelled Both Comets On Fire's freakout euphoria and the post-apocalyptic spook of Current 93.” MOJO

IGNATZ

“Strangely lovely; textures of disintegration and decay, with flickering wah-guitar sending tiny distress signals into the dark, fuzzy void” THE WIRE

Rick Tomlinson’s playing has a woody mystique and a real eclectic spirit which manages to draw lines between Davey Graham-ish fingerpicking and Turkish psychedelia, between Nick Drake confessionals and Led Zep, between folk and motorik. UNCUT
