Apache Beat - Windmill - 18 Feb

twistedlounge [Edit] [Delete] 22:12, 17 February '09

APACHE BEAT (Brooklyn, NY)
The next hot-as-shit thing out of the fine borough, Apache Beat up the post-punk ante with dark yet danceable rhythms, tribal drumming, distorted riffs and full-bodied female vocals.
The five-piece take their name from former Kraftwerk and Neu! drummer Klaus Dinger's phrase for krautrock's motorik pulse and are signed to SLU Records (Crystal Castles, The Teenagers etc).
A hit at this year's CMJ festival, where they were joined onstage by Lightspeed Champion. Imagine a band with the postpunk funkiness of a Rip Rig & Panic and a singer to match Neneh Cherry. - The Guardian
On record they may have krautrock pretensions, but the Germanics have clearly been left at the studio because, like the Pretenders playing post-Green Day grunge, this is pure hair-raising adrenaline pop. - NME (Live Review)

BETTY & THE WEREWOLVES (London)
Last seen here back in December when they supported Vivian Girls on that most memorable night, Betty & the Werewolves are three girls and one boy, signed to Damaged Goods records, who whoop and howl through the night and sound like Stereototal having a fight with Lush over who gets to kiss the Buzzcocks first.
Glitter-struck punk guitars collide headfirst with bits nicked from Kate Bush, Keats and Herman Hesse, as their songs weave tales of London night buses and housewives going insane
'a dapperly dressed and incredibly cute quartet catering in soaring choruses and clever lyrics' - The Fly

DEAR THIEF (London)
One of the capital's most innovative trios right now, Dear Thief are slowly building up an army of supporters for their quirky but poppy sound that brings up images of whqat might happen if Jonathan Richman was pressganged into Shellac.
