Four Day Popfest Pass £25

This night is part of the first LONDON POPFEST, a gathering of indiepop fans, bands, clubs and labels from around the world. Over the weekend more than twenty bands will be playing in four venues, London’s finest indie clubs will be spinning the tunes, there will be fanzine and record stalls, pop quizzes, films… and more besides. Four days of running around this brilliant city celebrating some amazing bands, meeting some old friends for the first time, swapping records, tapes and fanzines, drinking, dancing and, well, you know… doing what people do at festivals.

PELLE CARLBERG
The former singer of Swedish indie popsters Edson made a big splash in the indiepop world a few years ago when he released the brilliant single, "Clever Girls Like Clever Boys Much More Than Clever Boys Like Clever Girls" - a super danceable slice of euphoric folky indie pop reminiscent of early B&S. His new album, "The Lilac Time", is better still, and tips a wry nod to his inspirations with a song called "1983 (Pelle & Sebastian)"! Pelle will be accompanied by the talented Jonathan who will play bass guitar and drums… simultaneously!
“Killer tunes that lodge in your mind, dissolving like sugar lumps into your blood stream.” (Kitten Painting)

THE SCHOOL
Originally formed by Liz Hunt of The Loves as a side-project, The School have turned into genuine contenders, inking a 2-album deal with Spain’s Elefant records, home of Camera Obscura. Indiepop with a strong 1960s influence, The School are just putting the finishing touches to their debut album with producer Ian Catt (Saint Etienne, The Field Mice, Trembling Blue Stars) for release later this year.
“A swoonsome waltz through the best bits of Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura, and 60s girl groups.” (How Does It Feel To Be Loved)

POCKETBOOKS
Pocketbooks are a pop band from London, combining melodic boy/girl harmonies, spiralling guitars and delicate piano lines. Since appearing on How Does It Feel To Loved’s seminal “The Kids At The Club” compilation they’ve released a single on Atomic Beat records and an EP on their own Make Do And Mend label, been played on BBC 6music and played fabulous pop shows with the likes of The School, Radio Luxembourg, Butcher Boy and Saturday Looks Good To Me. Think Camera Obscura, The Pastels, Belle and Sebastian, The Sundays and expect a sprinkling of dazzling 60s soul alongside some sparkling indiepop charm!
“Nuggets of exquisitely crafted pop that slyly references the timid bashfulness of 'Tigermilk' era Belle and Sebastian and the spring-hued shimmer pop of early Heavenly” (Losing Today)

LET’S WHISPER
Let's whisper is Dana Kaplan and Colin Clary, both of whom you might have heard of from their solo projects and their other band The Smittens. They play the sweetest, catchiest pop songs – check out their cd on WeePOP! or take a listen to their MySpace.
