TONIGHT! Anni Rossi + Rollin Hunt + Peter Wright in Leeds

ForestOfSound [Edit] [Delete] 10:28, 14 October '08

Forest of Sound presents:

Tuesday October 14th @ The Packhorse, 208 Woodhouse Lane, Leeds, LS2 9DX.

£5 on the door, doors 8pm.

Anni Rossi [http://www.myspace.com/annirossi]
I saw Anni Rossi at the beginning of 2008 and was quite simply blown away - just her voice and her viola are present, but she writes and performs such inventive, heartfelt songs that encompass the very very very best bits of lo-fi, pop, folk, singer-songwriter and leftfield invention. She's back in Leeds to promote her new album on 4AD. Come down to The Packhorse and let her warm up a cold Tuesday October night for you...

"Blessed with a distinctive voice that leaps effortlessly across registers, she plays viola simultaneously, plucking and bowing virtuoso accompaniments as she sings. She has been caterwauling and foot stompin' her way into audiences' hearts across Europe ever since Four Tet spotted her and got her invited to perform at London's Homefires Festival in 2005."

Rollin Hunt [http://www.myspace.com/rollinghunter]
Rollin supports Anni with his lovely laid back, lo fi tender pop - think Jeffrey Lewis and Jonathan Richman hanging out on an American city beach at night in Autumn. Or maybe playing a few songs on a rickety old guitar in the basement of their shared house. So, ace, basically.

Peter Wright [http://www.myspace.com/takemeseriouslyshoes]
Local folk/singer-songwriter lovely Peter and his lush fingerpicked chords, gorgeously mournful vocals and fine ear for a melody comes to open up a great night.

"The ratio of shaggy dog stories to songs today is perfect, allowing enough of his zany stage persona to come across without overshadowing his extraordinary voice or sprightly, skilful acoustic guitar accompaniment. Wright in a serious guise can be extremely poignant and yet his lighter songs are equally successful, and a charming sense of humour and sharp sense of irony is one of his best assets in dealing with both styles." - http://www.leedsmusicscene.net
