Thrill Jockey is very proud to announce that Extra Golden will be visiting our shores this summer for the first time with a handful of UK dates and festivals in Europe. The band will also be appearing on BBC2 the Culture Show on Tuesday 8th July..........

UK DATES:

8th July - Mono - Glasgow
9th July - The Cube - Bristol
10th July -Dingwalls - London

Extra Golden is a international collaboration between Alex Minoff (Weird War) and Ian Eagelson (Golden) from the US and Opiyo Bilongo & Onyango Omari Wuod Omari from Kenya. They have released two albums on Thrill Jockey - 'Ok- Oyot System' and 'Hera Ma Nono'.

Their sound is a unique mix of American boogie rock and Benga - an upbeat style of guitar dance music that has been popular in Kenya since the 1960's. Opiyo Bilongo is a star in the Kenya Benga scene, having released countless recordings. Senator Barack Obama was pivotal in Kenyan members of the band getting their work visas for their US tour last year so there is a song of thanks to him on the most recent album.

Words of praise for 'Hera Ma Nono'...

"Music which will make you wish for a dancing partner and a smoky room in some down-at-heel tin-roofed African nightclub, the live band blasting away on one side of the room" (Songlines)

"This is a cross-cultural project where musical sympathies run deep" (Wire)

"Exciting and addictive...You don't even notice that genres are being straddled and culture gently merged" (Sunday Times)
