HEALTH
Feedback moulded into melodic rainbows, pummelling beats that meet eerie sonic spaces, party-skronk and paisley no-wave... From the Los Angeles scene that spawned the likes of No Age, BARR, Mika Miko and Mae Shi and based around the DIY club, The Smell, HEALTH (all capitals, please) take brutalism and noise, then twist it through the eye of British Invasion pop and psychedelia. Primal drumming, pyroelectric oscillating guitars and a combination of understated and unhinged vocals end you up somewhere between Liars, Deerhoof, Animal Collective and Boredoms. HEALTH first came to prominence last year in the UK when their single, Crimewave, was remixed by the dead trendy Crystal Castles group, becoming some kind of a hit. Their debut, eponymous, album came out afterwards, with tunes containing the bombastic dynamism of their live show. But, being fond of a bit of a dance , their latest release is an album of remixes, entitled "HEALTH//DISCO", featuring reworkings by the likes of Acid Girls, CFCF and Pink Skull.
