Ill Ease & drumming girls in Manc. - Sun 8th May

PAvI [Edit] [Delete] 21:06, 6 May '05
Pop Art vs. Industry presents a night of bands who prove that women in rock don't just have to stand around looking vacant, as all 3 acts have women behind the kit.

Ill Ease + The Snakes + The Lost Weekends
Sunday 8th May @ Star & Garter, Fairfield St, Mcr.
£4 adv/£5 door

Brooklyn New York's Ill Ease is the solo band of Elizabeth Sharp, former drummer/singer of New Radiant Storm King. Both live and on record Ill Ease songs often begin with the drums, are built up with bass loops and fragmented guitar riffs, and then fully animated by cityscape sound collages, aka found sounds, like car horns and police sirens. Elizabeth Sharp runs the Ill Ease show from her drum stool front of stage delivering her unique slippery vocal style which crests over and contrasts with Chicagoan electric blues and warped Rolling Stones b-sides skipping along to NYC noise. Charged, chaotic and claustrophobic, I reckon they sound a bit like the Fiery Furnaces first thing in the morning. Recently seen supporting Erase Errata, The Kills and The Fall in the UK, on this tour, Sharp will be joined by Torben Pastore of The Lilys, forming a two-piece that you'd swear was a 5 piece if you blurred your eyes.

Support from the darkly twisted, Auteurs-esque Luddites The Lost Weekends and original boy/girl scuzzy blues duo The Snakes.
