LAWM presents a perfect night of jaw dropping high tempo darkness with New York's O'Death - frantic

gothic alt.country - our Halloween bash so feel free to express yourself with deathly dress - best

effort wins an O'Death cd

Five guys, maybe three shirts between them, take to the stage. There’s a banjo, a fiddle, a drum set

littered with gas cans, chains, and broken cymbals. Then they all start howling, stomping; it’s an

anachronistic jug band party in a junkyard with sing-along hooks and weathered vocals from another time.

Their fans, an ever-expanding congregation, sing along and follow the band with an almost religious

fervor, and as vocalist Greg Jamie’s eyes roll back into his head there’s a sense that something almost

sinisterly spiritual has overtaken everyone in the room. This is the world of O’DEATH.

With the re-release of Head Home, the critically acclaimed New York act has created a perfect companion

to their spellbinding live show. Part southern gothic spiritual, part moonshine fuelled hoedown, these

recordings, now presented with new remixes done by the band and Billy Pavone, are a timeless addition to

the canon of weird old America.

It seemed like a perfect accompaniment to this to invite Manchester’s LAST HARBOUR. Last Harbour are a

collective playing rustic, cinematically atmospheric songs that rattle and loom, at once epic and

intimate, harsh and beautiful. Using instrumentation that might traditionally be associated with folk

music, the band instead hammer and sculpt their music into unusual and beguiling forms. This is music

with a strong emotional content, both bitter and beautiful - a must for fans of bands such as

Tindersticks, Dirty Three and Nick Cave. "A record of seductive charm and nocturnal glower” (Uncut).

Kicking off the night and now firmly installed as LAWM favourites are RUBY IN THE DUST. They have only

been gigging for less than a year but they have become instantly popular around Lancaster for their

original sound, a mix of cabaret, bar room jazz, with Arabic influences.
