Thurs 18th Oct - LAWM IN LANCASTER presents GLISSANDO + THE PATTERN THEORY + DEAN MCPHEE + NIAMH STA

LAWMy [Edit] [Delete] 21:48, 11 October '07

LANCASTER LAWM @ YORKSHIRE HOUSE
THU 18TH OCT, 2007 8.00pm £4

LAWM presents a night of shoegaze/experimental/post-rock, that will appeal to fans of The Cocteau Twins, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed, and ambient, experimental music generally.

Formed in 2002, GLISSANDO have spent the years thus far welcoming and unwelcoming strangers and friends to the sounds they make, occasionally releasing the odd limited edition CDr here and there along the way. A now more settled combination of Richard Knox and Elly May Irving has seen a much more focused and ultimately finer output in recent years. The re-housing of their Cloud Blunt Moon studio has certainly made life much easier. Live performances usually see an array of different musicians, changing from show to show. The ambient and experimental sounds bring to mind the likes of Low, Gregor Samsa and Cocteau Twins. See http://www.myspace.com/glissando

THE PATTERN THEORY were founded in 2006. Their debut EP has just been finished and will be released on September 1st. They play angular, rhythmic, experimental sounds and count Captain Beefheart/Zappa, Tortoise, King Crimson, Brian Eno, and Gong amongst their influences. Check them out here:

Well known locally DEAN MCPHEE is musician, dj, poet, comedian, promoter and probably other things we don’t even know about. But tonight he’s showcasing his guitar skills - fingerpicked psychedelic drone-folk with elements of country/folk , indian, african and modal jazz influences, on his trusty telecaster. See http://www.myspace.com/deanmcphee

Kicking off the night is a set from NIAMH STARKY, who has just started to emerge on the local music scene, playing ethereal, ambient electric guitar. See http://www.myspace.com/niamhstarkysongs
