CHRIS BROKAW (Come/Codeine/The New Year) NOTTM!

blindjoedeath [Edit] [Delete] 00:27, 19 April '05
Ok, here's a evening of music based on the quieter side of the volume dial for you;

CHRIS BROKAW
I don't know where to start with this guy. His CV reads like a history of American Underground Rock: CODEINE, COME, THE NEW YEAR, PULLMAN (with folks from Tortoise), CONSONANT (with Mission Of Burma people), EVAN DANDO. According to his website he's even played with GG ALLIN. Fucking hell. And then there's his solo stuff. You might have seen him open for J Mascis at The Social. Or you may have been one of the few who attended his last solo show there last year. It was one of the highlights of the year. He is simply the best acoustic guitarist alive and doing the rounds today. He amazes. He mixes up twinkling jazzy instrumentals somewhere between flamenco guitar and the ever-namechecked John Fahey and more straight, wry, singer songwriting. He records for Matador mainman Gerard Cosloys 12XU label over here and this is a rare gig. Again, it took effort to get this to work and seeings how lazy we are you know it's going to be good right?

LAST OF THE REAL HARDMEN
Chris from lords/Reynolds/Wolves Of Greece. Now with band! Cello, drums, acoustic and electric guitars. Not as good as John fahey but certainly as drunk and nearly as plump.

MARK JASPER
Trying to write music that sounds a bit like the theme tune to Short Circuit 2. Imagine Krautrock meets Drivetime. Playing guitar little singing with special gueststar Katy of Little Girls with Cherries fame

On Weds 20th at Bunkers Hill Inn, Hockley, Nottingham. £4adv, £5 on the door.
