In 2003 with the band in meltdown due to various personal problems The Loves played the first of their St Valentine’s Day Mascara shows. Tanked up on whisky main man Simon Stone whacked his head on a microphone and was bleeding profusely when he took to the stage. After stumbling through a couple of songs Simon then hit keyboard player Liz over the head with his guitar. The rest of the band left the stage and Simon attempted to play the entire rock opera Tommy by himself. It was very Brian Jonestown Massacre. Before anyone knew who they were. Four years later and Simon is back with an entirely new Loves line-up, with the exception, oddly enough, of Liz. Their new album “Technicolour” is released on the 12th February and to celebrate Fortuna POP! invite you to…

THE LOVES
From Cardiff, The Loves mix pop psychedelia and C86 indie with a dash of Jack Daniels and beatnik cool. They released their debut single on Radio One DJ Huw Stephens’ Boobytrap Singles Club in May 2001 and then 2 singles, an EP and an LP with the esteemed Track And Field Organisation between September 2001 and February 2004. They also recorded 4 Peel Sessions in 2 years (1 of which was broadcast live from Peel Acres on Valentine’s Day 2002), and sessions for Marc Riley on BBC 6Music and BBC Radio Wales. Their second album “Technicolour” is released on Fortuna POP! on February 12th.

THE GRAVE ARCHITECTS
Born with a broken heart "The Grave Architects" have picked themselves up, dusted themselves down and written their way to the top, garnering praise from the NME, plays on Radio Nottingham and a mention on the local council website along the way. Since forming in Nottingham (July 2005) "The Grave Architects" are now seasoned hands at the pulling heart strings out, stretching them once around the funny bone and plucking them to the wet crash of tiny tears. Think a hopped-up Jonathan Richman, or maybe The Rockingbirds, if anyone remembers them. Currently in the process of recording an LP, early indications suggest that you may well throw away the rest of your records on the grounds that they are now 'worthless'.
“Nottingham’s own broken-hearted, The Grave Architects, haven’t even
played ten gigs yet in their short career as a band, but already
something special’s going on. (egigs.com)

MON FIO
MELODY! ROMANCE! DRAMA! CATCHINESS! HUMOUR! Just 5 words to describe the heart-breakin', romance-makin' new old-fashioned POP sound of Mon Fio. To which add a mean vibraphone and a singer who is so chatty that the songs sometimes gets in the way of the jokes. Tap your toes, laugh in the right places and realise that a vibraphone is basically a huge f*ck-off xylophone.
